1. Post Cards and Greeting Cards

The Post Card

We use a Clipping Mask to make a "vacation spot" post card.

Greeting Cards

The layout is probably the hardest part of making a greeting card, especially if you are printing an "inside" message. This is a simple layout for a one-sided (Right Click to Download) (1/2) x 7" x 10" Greeting Card For our demo, here's the (Right Click to Download) lily painting

There are many "paper" companies, one that I like is "Red River Paper." They also have some video tutorials for Photoshop Elements and Photoshop on how to set up printing guides for Canon, Epson and HP printers. You'll find that web page here.

About.com has an excellent step-by-step tutorial on how to set up and make a 4 sided card.

2. Wanted Poster and Magazine Covers

Wanted Poster

What you need...1. A "Western" font and 2. A "Mug" Shot! 3. Parchment paper for the background. (it's on the class disk)

66RodeoYou can never have enough fonts! But, in this case we need a "Western" Font. The closest version already installed is called 66Rodeo. You can find 12 more Western Styled Fonts here...

The Parchment Paper...
Burn or make the edges ragged... How? Use the polygon selection tool to make an irregular edge. Then use the smooth tool to soften the edge. Then use the burn tool to darken the edges! Try it, you can find some ideas here!

The Mug Shot...
Turn the photo into a line drawing. You'll find instructions using one of many methods to achieve this... on the class blog!

dpi... Really means pixels per inch!
Setting up your Project to print correctly to screen or paper

Sharpening...
Is the one, the most important process you MUST do to present your work. Especially if your work includes photographs.

Printing...
Photoshop CS through CS4 (yes, it's Changed in CS5 -- See link below...)
Three things happen when you Print a Photo in CS - CS4.
1. The computer must talk to the printer first...
hey, printer! here comes photo data, to be printed on a thirteen x nineteen inch paper, in landscape mode...
2. Hey, Photoshop here's the setup for printing the colors...
Either photoshop manages the colors, or the printer does the management...or there is NO color management at all!
3. Okay printer, here's the details.
This is where you select, the paper type, print mode, quality of the print and who is managing the color...
Okay, you can print now
